Hey, 14

I wonder if other people have a favorite substitute number that they use, like I do, for situations where the real number is not known, or is just not important. Mine is 14. Not necessarily my favorite number in the world (that’s number 8), but it’s my catch-all, works in every situation number. For example, I may say that I tried to call you fourteen times last night. The number can change depending on the degree of the exaggeration, like I may say that the water bill was fourteen hundred dollars this month, or that I have asked the kids to pick up their wet towels fourteen thousand times, or that I've consumed fourteen billion calories today. But in order for it to qualify as a favorite substitute number, the base number has to always stay the same.

14 is my number too!!! I wasn't aware how often I use it as my catchall number until Buddy started playing competitive sports and was asked what number he wanted to be. I figured 28, his birthdate would be his first choice but nooooo
His response to his coach "14 please, its my mom's favorite number."
Awwwwwwww had to give him a hug on that one for thinking of me...when in reality I was thinking "Ummm no its not, I just use it because its the first one I think of" Clearly I have numerically brainwashed the boy! lol

Hmmm I think my fake number here must be 30. I do tend to resort to using that when I am exaggerating. As for a real favorite number I don't know that I have one. I tend to prefer odd numbers so I am sure 30 is not it. Nice to see you again Ivy.

Don't know that I have a favorite, the numbers just vary in size and depth with the degree of exaggeration. Of course I don't do that over 4 million times a day! ec

After thinking about it, my substitute number appears to be "a zillion". How strange !!
My favourite number normall is 11, though.
Thanks for an interesting post.
Take care, Meow

I think mine is 5 normally.

I tried to call you like 5 times actually means twice.

If I'm exaggerating I go to 5,000.

e.g. this commercial's been on about 5,000 times! (no, not Lamisil!)

Hivy, good to see you back again.
I think my substitute number is 100, like yours it gets some extensions, as in; I've told you 100 million times, don't exaggerate!!! people who know me well tend not to believe I've tried 100 times to contact them etc.

Mine is quite high~50.
I tried to call you 50 times.

Sometimes 500 times.

But I'm OCD so 50 is actually the actual number. ;)

I'm a little less exact - I use "umpteen." (But I know that is probably the first and not the umpteenth time I have actually written or typed it out.)

I'm reluctant to leave a comment because there were 14 comments before me, but I couldn't resist because believe it or not, my substitute number is ...... 23!
