Slurpee or Icee

OK, the other day I passed by Mrs. Field's and ordered an Icee. How long have they been selling Icees? I have no clue. But one day I was passing by there and I heard some teenage girls squeal, "Icees!". (I had never noticed.) So of course it stuck in my mind and eventually I had to buy one. It brought back great childhood memories. But now I can't remember which one it was that I used to get as a kid: Slurpee, or Icee? I remember walking down the road with my sister and we would buy one and drink it on the way home. One day we drank ours, PLUS the one that was meant for our baby brother. Hey - better to drink it and bring him NOTHING than bring him home one that was sadly melted...

It's just bugging me to know which one I got as a kid. I'm 44 years old now, that was when I lived in Louisiana, so the oldest I could have been was 8 because we moved from there after my second grade year. I guess I could research them both and see which product has been around as long as dirt... er.... I mean me. I also could just say "screw it, who cares which one it was?" - but that's just not my style.

I remember Icees from my childhood. I never heard of Slurpies til just a few years ago... they are a convenience store thing, whereas Icees were everywhere for many years. Round here, they are both just caled shushes.

Glad to see you back!

If you went to a 7-11, you got a Slurpee. Otherwise, it was probably an Icee. Slurpees are better, IMNSHO... But they've both been around forever, at least as long as I have and I'm as old as you. :)

Hey, welcome back! Hope everything with you is just as groovy as it was before you went off-air.

Icees and Slurpees are good, but do you remember the Freezies from Circle K back in the 70s / 80s? Those were my all time favorite. Whole different consistency, and much colder than Slurpees and Icees, which was a very important quality in a drink when growing up in Arizona.

It was an "Icy".

(No, wait, maybe it was a "Slurpee.")

(Icee?)

(What the hell difference does it make? All it means is the poor little kid got diddled, that's what.)

Icee came first so I'll bet on that. Remember K-Fart sold them in their snack shack? Blue Light Specials and Icees, now that was the life for me. :D

Dang it, now I'm going to have to stop at 7-11 for a Slurpee.

By the way, for some reason I'm thinking Slurpees are unique to 7-11, and Icees are everywhere else??

*grins* Glad to see you're back. I missed my Ivy-fixes. Regarding the Icee/Slurpee question, do you recall the texture? Slurpees are generally a bit smoother and if the Icee sits around too long and you go back to drink it, you usually end up drinking all the juice and are just left with a cup of mildly flavored ice. Personally, I prefer Slurpees. Once again, welcome back. :)

We have had Slurpees (from 7Eleven) for about 30 years now, I think !! Don't have Icees, but do have other anonymous types from various stores. Yum, they are the best ... love the blue ones!!
Take care, Meow

I am a couple of years older than you and I'm from Louisiana. It was always Icees for me when I was a kid. I lived in a very small town though so if you lived in a city you may have had access to Slurpees! I never heard of Slurpees till I was grown though.

MMM... Slurpees & Icees.
I would get slurpees growing up at 711 and Icees when we went to the movies... in fact I still do. I'm 23 now, I don't think I'll ever stop.
